The Different Types of Deer Fencing
There
are many different types of deer fencing available to purchase but
few can match the benefits offered with Benner’s Gardens deer
fence. Perimeter fences used to be made from electric or wire
fence materials that were very unattractive and difficult to maintain. Also
these types of deer fencing were not very humane since they could
cause harm to deer that tried to pass. The main purpose of
a deer fence should be to keep deer off of your property but at
the same time it should not hurt the deer for trying to pass.
That was part of the original thought process that
was used to design our type of deer fencing. In the spring
of 1996 Benner’s Gardens offered their second generation of
deer fencing known simply as “Heavy Perimeter Fencing”. There
were a lot of similarities between the new fence and the previous
standard fencing except that the material was 65% stronger than
the previous version. Unlike other types of deer fencing this
fence was designed for areas that are larger than a quarter acre
in size and with heavy deer traffic.
At Benner’s Gardens we use a very high strength
mesh material that is wire-like and constructed of UV stable black
polypropylene. The reason that we use black for our fence
is due to the fact that black is the most difficult color to see
outside. This makes these types of deer fencing more difficult
to see at distances as close at 15 to 20 feet and will not take
away from the beauty and architecture of your home. There
are many benefits to using our deer fencing for your property opposed
to the typical wood or wire types of deer fencing:
- 7 feet tall to ensure deer will not be able to jump over the
deer fencing
- Very cost effective and durable materials will save you money
- Easy to install on all size properties
- A humane way to prevent deer on your property opposed to other
types of deer fencing such as electric fences
- Does not detract from the appearance of your home or property
Although the fence is 7 and a half feet tall, it
only measures 7 feet once installed due to the bottom half foot
being flared away from the protected property. This is done
to keep the deer from being about to maneuver underneath the deer
fencing. Other types of deer fencing do not attach to the
ground and can allow not only deer to push under the fence but other
animals and rodents can reach your property as well. For many
years we have been using the same height for all of our types of
deer fencing products and have found that this is the ideal height
to use.
Since deer are used to running in the same paths
they need to be trained in order to avoid running into the deer
fence. When you first purchase and install your deer fence
you will need to tie white streaming streamers (which are included)
every ten feet on the fence so that the deer can see and avoid the
fence. Eventually the deer will change their path to make
sure and avoid these types of deer fencing and you can remove the
streamers.
Our deer fencing was specifically developed to be
easy to install and maintain for many years. Unlike other
types of deer fencing, our deer fence can easily attach to existing
trees and if your area is vacant of trees you can use our support
posts. The deer fence should also be attached to the ground
every five to six feet to ensure that deer are not able to push
underneath it. If you have any questions about the types of
deer fencing we offer at Benner’s Gardens please do not hesitate
