How Much Does A Deer Fence Cost?

How Much Does a Deer Fence Cost?

The cost of a deer fence largely depends on the materials you plan to use and the area you are fencing. Below are a few examples of different situations and their estimated costs for you.

Standard – 100ft Gardens

Our most common customer is a homeowner trying to keep deer away from their garden that they spent so much time and effort into perfecting! There are multiple different fence combinations for gardens depending on the exact issue you are dealing with and even the setup of your garden. While tensioning will never hurt a fence, adding tensioning to the kits listed below is fully optional as it is not required for these installations.

Deer Only – Garden contains raised beds:

When a garden is primarily using raised beds, there isn’t a lot of room for deer to jump in and eat everything. When this is the case, a 6ft tall fence is okay to use. While deer can easily jump 6ft, not being able to see a clear landing zone and still jump back out deters them.

This kit would be the best option for these situations: Fence Kit 11 (6 x 100 Strong)

Starting at $381.29, you can adjust the type of poly fence mesh within the kit which adjusts the price. The higher the strength number (700, 1050, 1400 are in this kit) the stronger the fence mesh will be. Most customers select 700 when dealing with a few deer here and there, but if you see many a day, you might need something stronger like the 1400!

Deer Only – No raised beds:

When you have a garden that doesn’t have raised beds, even at 100ft or less, it’s best to use a 7.5ft tall fence to deter deer. If deer see a clear landing zone, they will go for it!

The best kit for this application would be: Fence Kit 8 (7.5 x 100 Strong)

This kit starts at $431.29, with many customization options. The standard 700 poly works for most customers but depending on the frequency of the deer you see you might want something stronger. You can adjust the mesh in this kit between the 650, 800, and 1400 strengths.

High Deer Pressure – But still under 100ft:

With high deer pressure, you might need something even taller like 8ft, even if the garden is 100ft or less.

For this type of application, you would need: Fence Kit 16 (8 x 100 Stronger)

This kit starts out with the 800-strength poly mesh at $491.29 and can be upgraded to 1400 for high level protection. This kit would be an excellent protector for your garden!

Extreme Deer Pressure – But still under 100ft:

For extreme levels of deer protection, it may be advised to use a steel fence. These fences won’t act as a ‘trampoline’ in the same way a poly fence would but have a much higher breaking strength than poly fencing.

For this type of application in 8ft: Fence Kit 50 (8 x 100 All Metal 2.0 Grid)

For this type of application in 7.5ft: Fence Kit 50b (7.5 x 100 All Metal 2.0 Grid)

If you have raised beds, there is a 6ft tall version: Fence Kit 52 (6 x 100 All Metal 2.0 Grid)

These kits start out at $932.68 for an 8ft tall kit and $877.68 for a 7.5ft tall kit. The 2-inch opening size is the standard most customers choose. Both are very popular for smaller gardens as the steel mesh is more rigid and according to customers more visually appealing.

Larger Gardens or Yard Fences – Over 100ft

We also have a lot of customers who are either trying to keep their large gardens safe or deer out of their yards in general. When it comes to large areas like these, taller fences are needed to keep deer out.

Just For Deer – Poly:

If you are trying to keep deer out of a large area, there is a multitude of options available ranging from $739.80 to $1,120.12 depending on the kit height and length.

7.5ft Tall x 165ft Long: Fence Kit 9 (7.5 x 165 Strong)

7.5ft Tall x 330ft Long: Fence Kit 10 (7.5 x 330 Strong)

8ft Tall x 165ft Long: Fence Kit 6 (8 x 165 Strong)

8ft Tall x 330ft Long: Fence Kit 7 (8 x 330 Strong)

Any of these options would work well for open areas to keep deer out. While tensioning is not required, it is suggested when fencing in such a large area. When adding tensioning, don’t forget to order corner posts! These give the fence extra strength on the major turns in your fence, keeping everything up against the pull of the tension cable.

7.5ft Tall Corner Posts: Corner Post 2 1/2 + two 1 5/8 braces for 7.5ft fences

8ft Tall Corner Posts: Corner Post 2 1/2 + two 1 5/8 braces for 8ft fences

Just For Deer – Steel:

If you like the look of steel fencing or wish to have a stronger, less wavy fence, feel free to check out our full steel fence kits! For a large area like this, the suggested height is 7.5ft tall or 8ft tall to prevent them from jumping over. It is also highly suggested that you add tensioning for a steel fence above 100ft. Like the steel fence section before, you will need corner posts with bracing for tensioning with this system.

7.5ft Tall Steel Kit: Fence Kit 50b (7.5 x 100 All Metal 2.0 Grid)

8ft Tall Steel Kit: Fence Kit 50 (8 x 100 All Metal 2.0 Grid)
